Superstition involves the belief in some supernatural process, such that walking under a ladder or breaking a mirror or spilling salt will have a bad effect, or that throwing salt over your shoulder after spilling it will negate that effect. it has been around us for many years and since then, our elders passed it on from generations to the others. superstitions are meant to keep people, especially the children's to behave and act in a certain ways in order keep them save from all the possible danger.
yet, superstitions can also play a negative role in our lives, as we have been told by our parents since the early age of our life that by acting in certain ways will lead something bad to happens. as an example, we are told not to open an umbrella when we're inside a house as it will attract the snakes to come. the main reason that the elders uses that superstitions is that they are actually afraid that the umbrella might hit someone in the eye. basically, they tells us white lies in order to prevent us to do anything that will leads to harm or danger. as a result of that, the children will think that it is okay to tell lies.
apart from that, superstition uses fear to control us from certain behavior. it causes us to be Phobic (fearful) which can also interfere with our lives, and cause a lot of anxiety, people who are afraid of Friday the 13th might change travel arrangements or skip an appointment because of unnecessary anxiety. These types of superstitions offer no benefit at all.
lastly, as i said before, superstitions gives both positive and negative effect on us and its all depends on how much we believe, how much it effects our daily decisions.
